About Roofer Plymouth

A Plymouth roofing business built on straight answers, careful work, and knowing the difference between the city’s very different roofs.

Who we are

We are a roofing contractor working across Plymouth and the surrounding areas, from the Hoe and Devonport out to Plympton and Plymstock. We are a service-area business: we come to you rather than working from a shop counter, which keeps our overheads down and our time on roofs rather than behind a desk.

What we care about is being the roofer people call back. That means telling you when a repair will do, showing you what we actually found, and quoting for the job in front of us rather than the job we would prefer to sell.

Knowing Plymouth’s roofs

Plymouth is an unusual roofing city and it pays to understand why. Between 1940 and 1944 the city was raided 59 times; the council records 3,754 homes destroyed and around 18,000 needing major repair. The centre was then cleared and rebuilt on a new grid, deliberately horizontal in character, while other bombed streets were rebuilt within the old pattern and whole districts came through largely intact.

So a roofer here has to be comfortable with two quite different bodies of work: the flat-roofed reconstruction stock of the centre, and the pitched natural slate, hips, valleys and leadwork of the Georgian and Victorian buildings that survived. Add 15 conservation areas, more than 800 listed entries, and a genuinely exposed coastal position, and generic roofing does not really cut it.

How we work

  • We look properly before we quote. A guess from the pavement is not an inspection.
  • We show you what we found. Photographs of the actual defect, not a diagram of someone else’s roof.
  • We quote in writing. Scope, materials and what is excluded, so you can compare it with anyone else’s.
  • We work to the standard. Slating and tiling set out to BS 5534, with fixings specified for this exposure rather than a national average.
  • We check the constraints first. Conservation area, listed building, non-traditional construction — all better known before the scaffold than after.
  • We leave it clean. Every time.

What we will not do

We will not pressure you into a full re-roof when a repair will hold. We will not quote a price before we have seen the roof. And we will not tell you a job is urgent when it is not — if it can wait until spring, we will say so. Read our guarantee, or get in touch.
